Nicatourism

Fuimos a comer hace unos días a Santa Fe, un restaurante de estilo Tex-Mex en Managua, Nicaragua.  Tiene un ambiente agradable, buenas margaritas ($2.95) y unos chilaquiles ricos ($4.95).  El menú no es tan variado como me hubiera gustado.  De 1 a 10 daría un 6…si desea algo que se asemeja a tex-mex, es una opción decente.

A few days ago we went to eat at Santa Fe, a Tex-Mex restaurant in Managua, Nicaragua.  It has a nice ambience, good margaritas ($2.95) and some pretty good chilaquiles ($4.95).  There isn’t as much variety on the menu as I would like.  From 1 to 10, it gets a 6…if you want something Tex-Mex, it’s a decent option.

Here’s a couple children from El Chilamate (close to Granada – tourism capital of Nicaragua) taking advantage of their own original form of transport.  The little girl takes the lead and the little boy enjoys being a passenger!

Saludá a Kenner y Jeffer, dos niños gemelos de Nicaragua.  Tienen 11 años de edad.  Uno es más amistoso que el otro, como suelen ser los gemelos.  Son de Caña de Castilla, Granada.

Say hi to Kenner and Jeffer, two young twin boys from Nicaragua.  They are 11 years old.  One is friendlier than the other, as is often the case with twins.  They live in Caña de Castilla, Granada.

In La Reforma, Masaya, Nicaragua, a family makes a living making pillows from the Cat Tree (that’s what the locals call it).  As you can see, the tree produces some interesting by-products.  One of them is an tail-like object about the size of a big rabbit’s foot.  The fluff is completely removed from those tail-like objects and later cleaned and stuffed into pillows to be sewn up.  After a few hours of direct sunlight, they are off to the market or the streets to be sold.

En La Reforma, Masaya, Nicaragua, una familia se gana la vida haciendo almohadas del árbol Gato (así lo llaman los habitantes de la zona).  Como podés ver, el árbol produce una cosecha interesante.  Uno de los objetos tienen el tomaño de una pata de conejo.  La cosa, parecida al algodón, se quita del rabito y se limpia y luego lo ocupan para llenar las almohadas.  Después de solearlas un rato, están listas para el mercado o la venta de la calle.

Recently T.G.I. Friday’s in Managua, Nicaragua has adjusted their menu. Unfortunately, I can’t really say it was for the better. They have basically the same selections as always but the prices have been raised a couple of dollars. For instance, there’s a Frisco Melt ($7.95), Chicken Fingers sandwich ($8.95) and the Philly Cheesesteak ($9.95). The happy hour drinks are 2 x $2.50 but not impressive at all. I had two Long Island Iced Teas and they basically tasted like a tart lemonade. I am definitely looking for new options….

Recientemente T.G.I. Friday’s en Managua, Nicaragua ha ajustado su menú. Desafortunademente, no veo que ha habido mejora. Las selecciones del menú no varían mucho pero todos los precios han subido por un par de dólares. Por ejemplo, hay el Frisco Melt ($7.95), Chicken Fingers sandwich ($8.95) y el sandwich Philly Cheesesteak ($9.95). Hay ‘Happy Hour’- bebidas 2 x $2.50 pero no era muy buenas. Pedí dos Los Island Iced Teas y sabían a una limonada ácida. Estaré buscando nuevas opciones….

The Nicaraguan McDonald’s have a current promotion on their Milky Way McFlurrys. They cost C$33 ($1.57) and are umm umm good! Remember that there are 5 Managuan locations: Plaza España, Plaza Inter, Metrocentro (food court), Metrocentro (stand alone) and Bello Horizonte.

En McDonald’s de Nicaragua hay una promoción de McFlurry con sabor a Milky Way. Cuesta C$33 ($1.57) y son deliciosos!!! Acordate que hay 5 restaurantes en Managua: Plaza España, Plaza Inter, Metrocentro (food court), Metrocentro (costado oeste) and Bello Horizonte.
