You can get this great juice called “California Ice Cool” in the market or in the supermarkets (like La Colonia or Palí) in Nicaragua. It is a perfect combination of pineapple and coconut, ready to be mixed or drink it as it is!!! Try it ice cold cause it’s good!!! The 16.9 oz. bottle costs C$12 ($0.60).

Podés conseguir este refresco riquísimo llamado “California Ice Cool” en el mercado o en los supermercados (como La Colonia o Palí) en Nicaragua. Tiene una combinación perfecta de piña y coco, listo para ser ligado o tomado como está. Probálo heladísimo porque está rico!!! La botella de 16.9 oz. cuesta C$14 ($0.60).

I was walking though a field in Las Flores, Masaya, Nicaragua and saw this neat little house.  There are a lot of things I like about it: it’s color, it’s simple construction, the gardening and the little picket fence.

Caminaba por un campo en Las Flores, Masaya. Nicaragua y vi esta casita bonita.  Hay varias cosas que me causaron gracia: el color, el estilo sencillo, el jardín y la pequeña cerquita.

Casa del Café is a nice restaurant found in four different locations in Managua, Nicaragua: Los Robles, Metrocentro, Galerías de Santo Domingo and in the airport in the departure area.

The service is bilingual and good.  The typical breakfast pictures includes eggs, sausage, gallo pinto (rice and beans) fried cheese and sweet plantains.  It costs $3.50.  Two eggs, sausage and pancakes cost $2.80.  A bottomless cup of black house coffee costs a buck.  It’s a good place for coffee and breakfast.  I recommend it.  On a scale of 1 to 10, I give it an 8.

La Casa del Café es una buena opción para comer in Managua, Nicaragua en cualquiera de sus cuatro ubicaciones: Los Robles, Metrocentro, Galerías de Santo Domingo y en la sala de salida del aeropuerto.

Los meseros son bilingues y dan buen servicio.  El desayuno típico incluye huevos, chorizo, gallo pinto, queso frito y plátanos maduros.  Cuesta $3.50.  Dos huevos, chorizo y panqueque cuesta $2.80.  Una taza de café negro (podés repetir) cuesta $1.  Recomiendo este lugar.  De 1 a 10, doy un 8.

Where to buy Crocs in Nicaragua

Papa John’s pizza has an interesting offer right now. It’s not cheap but it’s good!!! There are three options: Hawaiian Volcano, Hawaiian barbeque chicken or the classic Hawaiian. You also get a grilled chicken salad and a pitcher of the drink of your choice. All this for C$397 (a little less than $19).

There are two Papa John’s locations in Nicaragua: one in Masaya, Nicaragua right along the highway and another in the Galerías de Santo Domingo shopping center (southside of Managua).

La cadena Papa John’s tiene una oferta interesante. No es barata pero ¡¡¡es buena!!! Hay tres opciones de pizza: Hawaiian Volcano, Hawaiian barbeque chicken o la clásica Hawaiian. También incluyen una ensalada de pollo asado y un pichel de bebida de su elección. Todo por C$397 (un poco menos de $19).

We are in May and the rainy season has entered a little early this year. The prognostics say that it isn’t the rainy season (winter) yet but if it smells like winter and tastes like winter, it’s probably winter. This is what the locals call yucca wood…gathered together like this (growing in the ground) until the moment they decide that it’s time to plant it. It’s about time….

Estamos en el mes de mayo y la época de lluvia ha llegado temprano este año. Los prognósticos dicen que falta todavía para el invierno (época de lluvia) pero yo digo: si huele a invierno y sabe a invierno, probablemente es invierno. Los locales llaman aquel monte ‘madera de yuca’…juntadita (pegada y creciendo en el suelo) hasta el momento cuando deciden que es hora de sembra. Ya casi….

The jocote fruit is the closest you’ll get to a green apple from any Nicaraguan tree. This creative use of the jocote caught my attention. Some creative young girls made this table center piece out of a jocote branch and a local flower. Eye catching, isn’t it?

El jocote es la fruta más parecida a una manzana verde que se puede cosechar en Nicaragua. Este uso bien creativo del jocote me llamó la atención. Algunas muchachas jóvenes hicieron este arreglo de mesa de una ramita con jocotes y una flor local. Llamativo ¿verdad?
