The mail service (post office) in Nicaragua has improved greatly in the past few years. To send a letter to the U.S.A. from Nicaragua, the current cost is C$10 ($0.50). Generally, it will arrive within 7-10 days. Likewise, if you send a letter from the U.S.A. to Nicaragua, it will generally arrive in 7 days (DO NOT SEND CASH IN THE MAIL). It won’t ever arrive. For domestic mail, a letter costs C$4 (about $0.20) and will arrive in 2 or 3 days. Other services include a personal post office box, which provides you with your own key and own little box. This service costs C$240 ($12) per year. You get an address like the following:
